Now one foot … now the other

‘Nothing would be done at all if a man waited until he could do it so well that no one could find fault with it.’
– Cardinal Newman

Sometimes success is more about keeping traction and less about doing the best thing all the time. I catch myself stalling sometimes because the perfectionist in me wants to say the best thing, make the best decision, or invest my time in the best way. When that happens, I end up actually doing less!

Some of the churches I’ve seen God use in the most powerful ways were pretty lousy examples of the ‘perfect’ church when they started out. It’s good to pursue excellence in everything we do. But sometimes we’ve just got to start something imperfect and grow!

  1. One of my favortie Ralph Waldo Emereson quotes is:

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt have crept in. Forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be cumbered with your old nonsense.”
