In class Thursday we talked about how different theorists bring together the ideas of practices and the Powers. We discussed how the idea that getting a person into an office or a position could “change everything” is really untrue when you consider the power of the office itself. There are systems. There is momentum. There are people around an individual that limit that individual’s actions. It takes more than changing the leadership or electing the right person into a position to change the world. We have to understand the way the position works and understand the nature of the Powers we’re dealing with before real change can happen.
It’s all just another reason our last book, Transforming Power, was useful. It gave practical ways to work for change using methods that can confront and tranform the powers in healthy ways.
